Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I am going to talk about conspiracy theories, and why I believe they can be damaging to the gospel message.

But first we need to define what is a conspiracy theory.
First lets define what I mean by “theory” in this context:
1. A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
2. The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice: a fine musician who had never studied theory.
3. A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.
4. Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.
5. A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.
6. An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.

So what I have an issue with are definition number 6.

Also, you will hear my opinion, which I will reason out, naturally, but on a topic like this, conjecture and reality have a blurry zone in the middle… like music… so if you get annoyed because I have stood on an idea you hold to be true, please just take away the principle, and don’t think I am setting down a system of rules as to how you must believe.

When you get to the source of many of these theories, they usually come from people trying to develop a utopian society… and generally, with them at the head. But what does the bible say about a utopian society on earth? It can only ever happen after Christ takes the helm.
So in reality often it comes down to extreme egotism, which is the in reality is the number one conspiracy. We all think our opinion is more valid than everyone else. The struggle with selfishness gaining control of us, is the greatest conspiracy.

Why is this important?

Aren’t people welcome to focus on whatever they feel led to focus on?
Or: I was saved by someone pushing conspiracy theories / They helped lead me to the truth.
It is true, I and others were brought to God by conspiracy theories (though most I learnt don’t actually fit into the category of conspiracy theories, but rather, they are facts).
This is not to condemn anyone who uses these methods to get people to the gospel, but rather to make us consider the real conspiracy, and not to remain in the conspiracy theory mindset after our conversion.  It would be rather hypocritical of me to bash conspiracy theories, when Mark Woodman’s videos do have a few in them (though most of the ones he uses are simply facts).  This is for people wishing to progress beyond that.

Also an important thing to define is, what is not a conspiracy theory.

The Jesuits

There are plenty of things that are brutally obvious facts. For example, there is a “conspiracy” of the Jesuit order to infiltrate and turn all churches back to the catholic church. Is this conjecture?
Go to Wikipedia or any encyclopedia you will get the same or similar information:
The Jesuits were founded just before the Counter-Reformation (or at least before the date those historians with a classical view of the counter reformation hold to be the beginning of the Counter-Reformation), a movement whose purpose was to reform the Catholic Church from within and to counter the Protestant Reformers, whose teachings were spreading throughout Catholic Europe.
the text of the Jesuit Extreme Oath of Induction as recorded in the Journals of the 62nd Congress, 3rd Session, of the United States Congressional Record (House Calendar No. 397, Report No. 1523, 15 February, 1913, pp. 3215-3216

So clearly this isn’t a conspiracy theory, it is a conspiracy fact. They will admit to have a conspiracy to bring all the churches back to the mother.

Ok, then the conspiracy goes that the SDA church will be infiltrated… but is this conjecture:

The official newspaper of the Cleveland Diocese says: “By what authority did the Church change the observance of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday? “The Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh Day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant. . . .” The Catholic Universe Bulletin,Aug. 14, 1942, p. 4. (ibid., p. 430.)
Well no… it is practically guaranteed, and the fruit of the counter reformation in the SDA church is very apparent with Vatican 2 worship styles, vatican 2 definition of modesty, and many other factors.

Ok, what about the media being untrust worthy?

Gradually we are finding that the media are being owned by fewer and fewer people. And these corporations have one thing in mind: how do we make the most money possible for us and our shareholders, so our share price gets higher.
Is it conjecture to think that would cause an organisation to do become less than trustworthy?
Is their evidence for this untrustworthy behaviour. After being infront of the cameras at a young age, I can tell you for sure, only in very rare cases does the truth actually make it to the screen.
So is this a conspiracy theory? No, it is like calling gravity a conspiracy theory. Naturally in this circumstance they will get away with whatever they can, and when they control the minds of the majority of the population, via the orienting reflex (hypnotism), then of course they are going to go bad. It is inevidible.
In these days when vice and crime of every form are rapidly increasing, there is a tendency to become so familiar with existing conditions that we lose sight of their cause and of their significance. More intoxicating liquors are used today than have ever been used heretofore. In the horrible details of revolting drunkenness and terrible crime, the newspapers give but a partial report of the story of the resultant lawlessness. Violence is in the land. And yet, notwithstanding the many evidences of the increase of crime and lawlessness, men seldom stop to think seriously of the meaning of these things. Almost without exception, men boast of the enlightenment and progress of the present age. {ST, November 20, 1907 par. 1}

The entertainment industries attempt to pervert the minds of Children and turn them away from God.
This is not a theory, this is a fact that many actually outright say:

For example Philip Pullman “I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief. Mr. Lewis would think I was doing the devil’s work.” (Wartofsky, Alona: ‘The Last Word’ in The Washington Post, 19 February 2001)
I’m not going to go on quoting and glorifying evil men, as this was one of the nicer ones. But basically You will find the vast majority of actors in this category. Why? In order to be a good actor, you have to be an exceptionally good liar. And what is the best way to do this? Daemon possession. Is this a theory? No. Jonny depp, denzel Washington, leonado decaprio and many others all say it outright.
So if you get a bunch of people who are essentially demon possessed, who are openly opposed to God, then is it speculation to say there is a conspiracy. No… again this is like saying gravity is speculation.

Evolution

There are lobby groups that sue whenever anyone teaches intelligent design in universities. There is clearly a major conspiracy here. The proponents admit it, they even admit lying about proofs for evolution in order to prop up their cause.

And they also admit that evidence doesn’t actually control their conclusion:
We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counter-intuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is an absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.

And at the end of the day, should this surprise us? If you believe you are a monkey with no moral regulator, situational ethics begins to make a lot of sense. Basically whatever you can get away with.
Again, there are so many references like this, that I could be here all day just on this topic.

What about politicians in the US?

The politician is given campaign donations, and the one with the best advertising (especially if they get celebrity endorsements… most celebs claiming to be spiritists or atheists)… what could possibly go wrong? But this is an interesting one, and one I need to focus on for a moment. Yes it is true politicians are usually lead by the wrong side, but this is an important thing:
Daniel 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

Those teachers in the church or in the school who distinguish themselves by their zeal in politics, should be relieved of their work and responsibilities without delay; for the Lord will not co-operate with them. The tithe should not be used to pay any one for speechifying on political questions. Every teacher, minister, or leader in our ranks who is stirred with a desire to ventilate his opinions on political questions, should be converted by a belief in the truth, or give up his work. His influence must tell as a laborer together with God in winning souls to Christ, or his credentials must be taken from him. If he does not change, he will do harm, and only harm. {FE 477.1}

But with sadness I have discerned that many of them are becoming politicians, and that against God. They enter into questions and debates and theories that they have no need to touch. Christ said, “I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”{DG 126.3}

So why is this… if God put the politician there, who are we to talk against his decisions. Cyrus for example was given his position. Was he a perfect king. No…. but did he help God’s church and allow religious freedom. Yes.
We are ambassadors for Christ… ambassadors don’t bag politicians all day or they lose their job.

The Jewish bankers

This may surprise you but this is not a theory. The Rothchilds do own the center of london’s financial district, they do own a very large portion of the worlds wealth. They are according to the encyclopedia judaica the gardians of the Vatican treasury. They do infact own large stakes in many of the media organisations.
The bible blessed the Jews, and

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

In other words, this blessing will stay on the Jewish people, and the fact that they own a large portion of the worlds wealth should give us great confidence in the veracity of the bible… especially considering how many times they have nearly been eradicated, and how heavily persecuted they have been as a nation (which is also prophesied).
Beyond that though, does it have much value? Are you going to stop them? Clearly you can’t stop a prophecy… just ask Napoleon and Adolph Hitler… or at least the historians who record their epic failure to fulfil their goal of breaking prophecy.

The problem is we look a things from a human perspective. We see Gold, God sees road base. We see men being Evil, God sees his orchestration of events to perfect his saints and help people to make a true decision for good or evil (which is his only goal)

The freemasons

My grandfather was a high level mason, and they do claim that “god is good but satan isn’t bad”; many of the wealthy and the rich are freemasons. It can be taken too far, but clearly they have a large sway on the world.
World war 1 was written in albert pikes book morals and dogma, to remove the tzars from Russia… it happened. This wasn’t a prophecy, but rather a statement of what they were going to do… the fact they did it proves there power is no theory.
The second world war was designed to set up a communist power. Did it happen? Yes.
The third world war is said to bring a world government. The problem with the last one is, it is true, but they won’t be a part of that government, as the stone that smashes the image will be the world government lead by Christ.
Jesus vs Satan
The great controversy between God an satan, is fact. We know it, the bible teaches it so much there is no need even to bring up quotes.

Revelation 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Global Warming

“15 years without warming are now behind us. The stagnation of global near-surface average temperatures shows that the uncertainties in the climate prognoses are surprisingly large. The public is now waiting with suspense to see if the next UN IPCC report, due in September, is going to discuss the warming stop.” Axel Bojanowski
April 15, 2013
I am not going to push that one though, as clear as the evidence is to me, we are getting to the border lines of conspiracy theory. Honestly, I wouldn’t push it from either direction, accept maybe in personal discussion.
Ok, no lets get into genuine Conspiracy Theories, or speculation.

Chemtrails / HAARP

To me this topic is one of the most solidly in the grounds of rank speculation. There are parts which are fact, for example, cloud seeding has occurred. Spraying of chemicals over cities has occurred. But does it occur over every city, even outback Australia where there is one person per 40 square kms? I saw these trails in the sky all my life, and they dissipated at varying speeds relative to the atmospheric pressure / temperature / wind speed.
Personally I believe it comes from the mind of people who have been in cities so much of their life that they never looked at the clouds when they were growing up.
Why is this destructive.
For one, if it was true, what could you possibly do about it?
Also I see many people getting sick when they see the trails, yet I don’t. Why is that? The capacity.

Sickness Originates in the Mind.–A great deal of the sickness which afflicts humanity has its origin in the mind and can only be cured by restoring the mind to health. There are very many more than we imagine who are sick mentally. Heart sickness makes many dyspeptics, for mental trouble has a paralyzing influence upon the digestive organs.–3T 184 (1872).

So if you believe chemtrails will hurt you, even if they are simply contrails (or jet streams), then will they hurt you? Of course. And what is the best way to stop them hurting you… for you not to believe in their existence. And that is not a very hard conclusion to come to if you treat the evidence with any degree of scepticism.
I went through “what in the world are they spraying” and a number of other doccos, and checked all their sources, and it was all taking 1 statement, and speculating to the nth degree.
I talked to some people who wouldn’t go outside on days when what they thought were chemtrails were outside. This was damaging their peace, and taking them away from a trust in God.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

This only produces fear in many people. If it was supportable would this be a reason to promote it? No. It cannot possibly help anyone come to the gospel, and can only make people scared to go outside.
Also with HAARP, you see a beautiful god glorifying sky, turned to a horrible chemtrail HAARP damaged cloud formation (which again I have seen all my life before harp existed in 1993).

HAARP

Does it exist, of course. What does it do? Ionosphere experiments. Beyond that, it is pure speculation. Could it be used to set off earthquakes? You could speculate yes.. but I hate to break it to people, the Lisbon earthquake and the preceeding instability in 1755 was happening all before HAARP.
Man likes to think they can control things, but at the end of the day, God lets satan do only what he lets him do. If HAARP was used to cause the tsunami that hit Japan, then God allowed it. For what reason? I am not even going to speculate.

9/11

I have been on both sides of this and honestly, if you are of a mind to be genuinely sceptical, you can make no conclusion either way. Do I condemn anyone for using this theory to get people to the truth? No. But I personally wouldn’t use it.
I do have a problem with certain aspects of it though. The person promoting the “detonations” in the twin towers uses the statement at the start of his video (as many do). “And ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
Did you know this is actually blasphemy to use this quote in this context?
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
So Jesus is saying that if we know his words, that will make us free. So if I am saying whatever “truth” I am pushing will make you free, then who am I claiming to be?
And honestly, I wouldn’t put any sinister charge on them, but seriously, what part of this 9/11 speculation could possibly make us free? I have seen so many people trapped in this endless mind games of conspiracies and fear. I find myself doing it sometimes because of my exposure to it.
What are the facts with 9/11. A plane hit each of the buildings. 2 buildings fell, plus a 3rd. The pentagon was damaged. Building 7 (the CIA building) was destroyed by a demolition charge.
What is conjecture:
– a few “Experts” say the two buildings were detonated. Question, how many people have taken down buildings of that size? There is not a single expert on the planet.
do you know how many people would keep their job if they did a detonation so messy as to damage neighbouring buildings as badly as that.
But either way, what is the issue here. Are you going to overthrow the government? Was the Roman government doing some incredibly dodgy things in the time of Christ? Did Christ say anything about it?

Boston bombing

What we know. 2 bombs went off. People got hurt.
Beyond that, speculation. I have entered into this speculation, and a total waste of time.
And then there is this:

Isaiah 33:14-16 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?  He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil;  He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

So should we be looking at this at all?
What if it was true that the government? Are you going to overthrow the government?
Does the end justify the means.
Some will say these theories got me to God. Does the end justify the means? Hilter thought so… This form of moral relativism has no place in the Christian world.
Where does it all lead?

Satan is . . . constantly pressing in the spurious–to lead away from the truth. The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God’s remnant people in the true testimony.– Letter 12, 1890. {1SM 48.3}
There will be a hatred kindled against the testimonies which is satanic. The workings of Satan will be to unsettle the faith of the churches in them, for this reason: Satan cannot have so clear a track to bring in his deceptions and bind up souls in his delusions if the warnings and reproofs and counsels of the Spirit of God are heeded.– Letter 40, 1890. {1SM 48.4}

I was talking to a friend on facebook, and I got to the point where I proved the trumpets from Ellen White (great controversy 1888 edition). You know what they said? Uriah Smith changed that. And this is where this way of thinking can lead if it becomes our focus. Being decerning is good… but many times I see people take the word of david ike about chemtrails, yet don’t have a problem that this same guy believes there is a reptilian race on the dark side of the moon which is infiltrating our earth.
Granted it has some basis on reality if you analyse the bible, but at the end of it, it is false. Just like the gnostic gospel, it is very close to reality, but the devil is in the detail. Satan is working ingenously.. not openly.
At the end of the day though, it comes down to one thing. While we are focusing on this, we are not focusing on Christ.

Daniel Webster gave utterance to these forcible words: “If clergymen in our day would return to the simplicity of gospel truth, and preach more to individuals and less to the crowd, there would not be so much complaint of the decline of true religion. Many of the ministers of the present day take their text from St. Paul, and preach from the newspapers. When they do so, I prefer to enjoy my own thoughts, rather than listen. I want my pastor to come to me in the spirit of the gospel, saying, ‘You are mortal. Your probation is brief, your work must be done speedily. . . . You are hastening to the bar of God. The Judge standeth before the door.'”

God desires the light found in the books of Daniel and Revelation to be presented in clear lines. It is painful to think of the many cheap theories picked up and presented to the people by ignorant, unprepared teachers. Those who present their human tests and the nonsensical ideas they have concocted in their own minds, show the character of the goods in their treasure house. They have laid in store shoddy material. Their great desire is to make a sensation. {1MR 62.3}
The truth for this time has been brought out in many books. Let those who have been dealing in cheap sentiments and foolish tests, cease this work and study Daniel and the Revelation. They will then have something to talk about that will help the mind. As they receive the knowledge contained in this book, they will have in the treasure house of the mind a store from which they can continually draw as they communicate to others the great, essential truths of God’s Word. {1MR 62.4}
The interest in Daniel and the Revelation is to continue as long as probationary time shall last. God used the author of this book as a channel through which to communicate light to direct minds to the truth. Shall we not appreciate this light, which points us to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our King? {1MR 63.1}

In short, I have only breifly covered each of these, and my goal has not been to prove or to disprove anything, but rather to show people that there are other, better ways to use our time.

amen
